Mathematical and energy modeler and Operations Researcher, has a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley (1971). He was professor of Management Science at McGill University (Montreal, Canada) from 1970 to 2001, and is now emeritus professor at that same institution. He has 30 years of experience in energy and environment modeling and analysis, and is author or co-author of more than 70 scientific articles, book chapters, and monographs. Richard Loulou was Lead Author for the 2007 Peace Nobel Prize winning Intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC), and continues to collaborate with the IPCC through the Integrated Assessment Modeling Consortium and the special working group on global climate scenarios. He and his team have been prime developers of the ETSAP suite of models based on the TIMES and MARKAL paradigms. His current activities focus on Research and Policy Analysis projects with the European Commission, as well as the French and US governments. Most of the recent projects have been in collaboration with a broad network of research organizations and individuals from North American, European, and Asian countries.
Energy modeling researcher and consultant since 1993, has a Ph.D. in production and quantitative methods (operations research) from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He did his graduate studies at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, with specialization in mechanical engineering. His involvement in this field has been at diverse levels: methodological developments, setting-up of large models, using models for policy analysis and the design and development of sophisticated user interfaces. He has published more than 20 articles and monographs in refereed scientific journals in the area of energy-environment modeling and analysis. He has been the key technical resource in several projects involving setting up large multi-region TIMES and MARKAL models.
